Strictly Come Dancing 2015: Call The Midwife’s Helen George Joins The Show

Strictly Come Dancing’s launch night is now so close, we can almost smell the biscuit-y scent of fake tan and the, er, slightly sweaty air full of nerves from the celebrities. An interesting combination, really.

To add to our excitement, the BBC have announced that Call The Midwife’s Helen George is the next celebrity ready to don their sparkly heels and enough sequins to make a magpie jealous.

HURRAH!

BBC One controller Charlotte Moore has confirmed that Helen, who plays Nurse Beatrix ‘Trixie’ Franklin in the fantastic Call The Midwife, is swapping her uniform for fancy ballroom dresses when the show returns next month.

Revealing the news at the Edinburgh International Television Festival, she said Helen is “really excited” to be taking part.

Helen admitted: “I know it’s going to be a challenge and if I’m honest I’m slightly terrified, but I can’t wait to get my tan and sequins on.”

We reckon you’ll do terribly well, Helen, don’t worry.

The gorgeous actress took to Instagram after the news was announced to show that she was already getting into the spirit of things.

Sharing this photo, she wrote: “In honour of joining this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, I’ve got my leg warmers on!”

Earlier this week, BBC’s director of television Danny Cohen confirmed that Jamelia was the twelfth celebrity to be joining this year’s line-up.

The singer and ‘Loose Women’ panellist admitted that she wants to give her dance-loving daughters, 14-year-old Teja and nine-year-old Tiani, a ‘run for their money’.

She said: “My girls are huge fans of Strictly, but when I told them I was doing it they laughed as they know that dancing is not my forté!

“The girls are amazing dancers though, so I definitely want to learn a new skill so that I’ll be able to give them a run for their money - and end them teasing me once and for all!”

Jeremy Vine, Ainsley Harriott, Kellie Bright, Georgia May Foote, Katie Derham, Carol Kirkwood, Peter Andre, Daniel O'Donnell, Anthony Ogogo, Anita Rani and Jay McGuiness make up the rest of the line-up - and what a fantastic bunch they are.

Good luck, everyone. We can’t wait to see you all dancing your socks off!
