Strictly Come Dancing fans were in tears as the professionals paid a “beautiful” tribute to women in the Royal Air Force on Remembrance Sunday.

Led by Amy Dowden and started by a young girl named Mia, the inspiring routine to Rise Up by Andra Day was beautifully choreographed by Karen Bruce and celebrated the role of women in the RAF.

The stars were joined by the RAF Spitfires Choir on stage, who were positioned on the stairs, while the end of the performance saw a very special moment as RAF women paraded on stage.

Fans watching at home were quick to congratulate the show on a “beautiful and wonderful” tribute on Armistice Day, a day also marking the World War I centenary.

One wrote: “Omg why is the Remembrance Day pro dance to Rise Up, I’m in tears already #Strictly.”

While another said: “the most moving and powerful dance to ever be danced on strictly #strictly.”

“Well #strictly has me absolutely sobbing with that opening dance. We will remember them. Always,” added somebody else.

“What a wonderful group dance by the #Strictly professionals. Beautiful choreography. Poignant and emotive. A fitting tribute to the women of the Royal Air Force. With a outstanding leading performance from @dowden_amy,” read a different comment.

Elsewhere during the results show, Danny John-Jules became the seventh star to leave the competition just a week before the annual trip to the Tower Ballroom.

The Red Dwarf star, who was partnered with Dowden, failed to win the support of head judge Shirley Ballas who used her casting vote to send them home.

The couple had finished bottom of the leaderboard with 27 for their Samba on Saturday night before landing in the dance-off with Graeme Swann and Oti Mabuse.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday November 17 at 6.45pm on BBC One, live from Blackpool.
