Strictly Come Dancing: Darcey Bussell Thinks Kellie Bright Should Have Won

Poor Jay McGuiness may still be basking in the glory of his Glitterball Trophy win, but the Strictly Come Dancing judges don’t think he should have walked away with the prize.

Darcey Bussell has admitted she felt EastEnders star Kellie Bright was the rightful winner of the BBC One show on Saturday night.

Two of her stunning dances, including her showdance, earned her maximum points from the judges and she was at the top of the leaderboard during the grand final.

However, viewers at home ultimately decided former Wanted singer Jay and partner Aliona Vilani deserved the trophy.

Asked if Kellie should have won, Darcey said: “Definitely — without fail.

“Her performance brought everything together. There wasn’t a mistake. It was on the money. She had more energy than anybody. She gave everything.”

Strictly’s Simon Cowell, Craig Revel Horwood, also agreed the Linda Carter actress deserved to win with partner Kevin Clifton.

“She turned in the most spectacular two performances,” he told The Sun.

Singer Jay triumphed on Saturday night despite his showdance being panned by the judges and ranking at the bottom of the leaderboard.

But that doesn’t mean he’s not enjoying his win, admitting he feels ‘happy and lucky’ to have won.

“I think like anything in life you can work as hard as you can but you always need an element of luck.

“This just means in my head ‘oh people enjoyed it as well’. So I feel happy and lucky and popular.”

He added to The Mirror: “It does feel amazing because I think I enjoyed every second of it until our last dance. All the people that held their breath or crossed their fingers for us, we ended up getting here.”
