Loyal Strictly Come Dancing fans are set to face a huge change from this weekend as the BBC confirmed some 'disappointing' news. The hit dance show already kicked off with its pre-recorded launch show last Saturday.

The class of 2024 was officially welcomed into the iconic ballroom by hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman during the colourful and energetic pre-recorded launch show which revealed this year's pairing for the first time.

It's this Saturday (September 21), that the competition really begins as the 15 new couples will perform their first dances of the series with comments and scores from the judges - Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Craig Revel Horwood.

But the BBC's latest "cost-cutting" move has sparked a change. They announced that they would be discontinuing the show's official blog to concentrate on other social media sites instead, the Express reports.

The Strictly Come Dancing blog has run alongside the main show for several years where viewers can get all the latest updates including each week's song reveals, announcements and statements, as well as updates following each elimination.

Taking to the site on Tuesday night (September 18), they explained their decision by writing: "We understand that a community has built up over the years and some of you will find this disappointing, however, in line with changing audience behaviours a decision has been made to direct users to our social channels where there are active communities discussing the show on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok."

"The Strictly blog and its comment section will soon be closing in line with other blogs across the BBC, with content no longer being published or updated. This blog will remain open for 24 hours before closing to comments permanently. Thank you for your contributions over the years, and we hope that you join us on our social channels."

Fans quickly took to the comment section with their upset. One wrote: "I am not on Instagram, Facebook or TikTok so thank you BBC, NOT!!!!!" Another commented: "I don't know whether I'm more upset or angry that the BBC has decided to close this blog. I really don't think that I will be as invested in the show, although I will still watch it. It was great to see the tunes on Tuesday and discuss them. Those who know more about dance than I do were able to say which tunes would work for which dances."

A third fumed: "I use neither Instagram, Facebook nor TikTok. I assume the BBC are happy to pretend people like me don't exist." Another posted: "So many will be coming here on Friday/Saturday, to find out the tunes and dances ready for Saturday night and discuss accordingly. How awful and sad, that these devoted Strictly fans, will now only find a closed blog. I will miss this blog."

A fifth remarked: "Thank you BBC for all the blogs you've given us. Thank you everyone for your company over the years." Another added: "I'll miss the banter on here. Farewell."
