Strictly Come Dancing fans shocked as Olympian Tom Dean is first to be eliminated
Strictly Come Dancing fans are understandably shocked as Olympian Tom Dean has become the first to be eliminated from the show. The results of the vote and subsequent dance-off were broadcast tonight, with viewers left astonished by the surprise.
Tom and his partner, professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova, were the first couple to have their dance-off fate announced, and they were soon joined by singer Toyah Wilcox and her partner Neil Jones. This meant that, at the end of the programme, the two pairs would perform their previous dance again.
First up were Tom and Nadiya, who danced the cha cha to 'Boogie Wonderland' for the second time in two days. Toyah and Neil then responded with their jive, set to the song 'Nutbush City Limits'.

The first judge to vote, Craig Revel Horwood, heavily criticised both dances, but he saw more wrong with Tom and Nadiya's performance, so chose to save Toyah and Neil. Next up, Motsi Mabuse pointed out issues with both couple's timing, but made the distinction that Tom and Nadiya were out of time for longer periods, so also voted to save Toyah and Neil.
Then, Anton Du Beke voted to save Tom and Nadiya, leaving the final decision up to head judge Shirley Ballas. Echoing Motsi's statements on timing, Shirley chose to save Toyah and Neil, meaning that Tom and Nadiya would be leaving the competition for good.
The reaction in the studio to this elimination was not a positive one, and the same can be said for social media, with one viewer saying: "Huh? How are they there in the first place, how were they eliminated out of the two? Make it make sense."
Another had this to say: "Shocking result. I thought Tom had real potential to learn and improve. Don't feel that way at all about the saved celeb."
With fans sure to still be reeling from this surprise, attention will turn to next weekend's action, which sees the duos take on movie week. The couples dropped hints of dances inspired by the likes of Barbie, Mrs Doubtfire and Tomb Raider, so it is sure to be another enthralling weekend.
