Strictly Come Dancing fans spot embarrassing name error during BBC Breakfast interview

BBC Breakfast viewers were quick to spot a glaring error during the Saturday morning episode (September 21.)

Presenters Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty had just introduced a Strictly Come Dancing segment featuring reporter David Sillito, who was catching up with the contestants ahead of the evening's show.

Among the couples he interviewed were Toyah Willcox and her dance partner Neil Jones. Sillito started by asking if the star had any "qualms" about joining the show amid allegations of bullying, reports the Express.

"Strictly's been in the news over the last few months. Did you have any qualms when you said yes? " he asked.

"I'm very sorry that people have had a negative experience," Toyah began. "All I can say so far: this has been the best experience of my life. We are being looked after beautifully."

However, despite the smooth interview, sharp-eyed fans noticed that Toyah's name was misspelled in the banner that appeared during the interview. Instead of Toyah Willcox, it read Toyah Wilcox with just one 'L'.

"Nice to see the item on Strictly Come Dancing. Shame the BBC got Toyah's name misspelled," one disgruntled viewer commented.

The segment later returned to Toyah and her motivations for stepping onto the Strictly dance floor. The singer and actress, who has enjoyed a 45-year career in the spotlight, said she wanted to prove age was no barrier to participating.

"I feel young, I don't feel old and I think people want to feel that way. That's why I'm doing it, to say 'Look I'm a pensioner, if I can do it, you can do it.'"

BBC Breakfast airs every day from 6am on BBC One and BBC News 24
