A month in to series 16 of Strictly Come Dancing and the competition is hotting up.

This week, the remaining 12 couples will give it their all on the dance floor hoping to survive another round. This week will see the introduction of a brand new category – Couples’ Choice, which can be either contemporary, theatrical or street in genre.

And the famous faces will be hoping to emulate some of the successes of previous series’ week five routines.

Here are five of the best from the history books…

Series 3 (2005) – Zoe Ball and Ian Waite – Samba

Ball – who made it all the way to the final – really showed off her Latin skills in a Samba with more rolls than a bakery.

The presenter and radio broadcaster, who went on to become part of the Strictly family for good on It Takes Two, sat pretty at the top of the table – a slot Ball and Waite regularly occupied - with 35.

Series 4 (2006) – Mark Ramprakash and Karen Hardy – Salsa

Ramps, who went on to become the second cricketer to lift the trophy, didn’t just great a memorable moment in week five for his high-scoring table-topping Salsa. No, the couple also sealed their iconic status as the first couple to restart a routine.

Moments into their Hot Hot Hot routine, Hardy and Ramps became tangled up in mics causing Hardy to stop, hold her hands up and push for a rerun. Sir Bruce Forsyth entertained the crowd, dancing with the floor manager, before the couple went for round two. They scored 35.

Series 9 (2011) – Jason Donovan and Kristina Rihanoff – Quickstep

Not only was his hold routine flawless, singer and actor Donovan also showed off his solo skills as he started the performance alone on the dance floor.

His Quickstep, which was also full of character, to Bewitched cast a spell over the judges who scored his 37 for his week five dance, with Alesha Dixon whipping out her 10 paddle.

Series 10 (2012) – Denise Van Outen and James Jordan - Viennese Waltz

Performer Van Outen showed she was a ballroom natural as she effortlessly floated around the floor with partner Jordan to At Last by Etta James.

A vision in mint, the couple topped the leaderboard with 35 – three nines and an eight from Darcey Bussell. They made it all the way to the final, finishing second or third to champions Louis Smith and Flavia Cacace.

Series 13 (2015) – Kellie Bright and Kevin Clifton – Jive

EastEnders favourite Bright, who plays Linda Carter, got to use her acting skills to create a bubbly character in her high-energy week five Jive.

Dancing to One Way Or Another, the pair – who reached the final that year –tied for the top spot with Helen George and Aljaz Skorjanec after scoring 35.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday October 20 at 6.45pm on BBC One.
