Strictly Come Dancing in talks with Jessica Ennis-Hill

BBC bosses are reportedly in talks with Jessica Ennis-Hill in a bid to persuade her to sign up for Strictly Come Dancing in 2017.

The show wasted no time contacting the Olympic gold medallist, getting in touch the moment she announced her retirement from the sport last month.

They’re now planning to woo her with a visit to the studio to meet the team and the opportunity to catch a live show. No expense spared, eh?

“Jess has been invited to Elstree to see the dancers and chat to some of the current celebs,” a source told The Sun.

“She’s made no secret of being a fan of the show, so they were on to her quickly when she hung up her trainers last month. It’s a tried and tested method to invite people down to see what it’s like and get them to sign up.

“They really want to land Jess because she’s got a high profile and the show’s had a lot of success with Olympic athletes.”

Jessica has made no secret about being keen to appear on the ballroom show in the past. “I’d absolutely love to do it,” she told reporters back in 2010. “But I would not risk doing it at this stage, next year or the year after. It’d be for when I finish achieving what I want to achieve in athletics.”

That’d be now, then!

A BBC spokesman refused to acknowledge the talks, saying: “We do not comment on speculation regarding future contestants” – but hey, ignore that - it sounds like it’s a dead cert to us!
