Strictly Come Dancing star Nick Knowles has updated fans on his personal struggles following his early departure from the BBC competition show after a knee injury. The DIY SOS presenter was plagued with bad luck during his stint on the show and has since needed to undergo two major operations.

The 62-year old tore his ligament while attempting a jump in a dress rehearsal with his partner Luba Mushtuk, and is still "learning to walk" following surgery. As well as damage to his knee, he was also forced to miss week two of Strictly Come Dancing after he tore his bicep while changing a tyre on his Range Rover

Talking to The Mirror, Nick said: "I’m still recovering. It’s gonna be about 8 months before it's like fully 100% again, so, I think I'll go back to doing less dangerous things after that - like climbing mountains and riding motorbikes!”

He added: "It's really weird. I did 40 years of rugby and got away with it without major injury. I've done all kinds of weird things like, you know, riding motorbikes in the desert and all kinds of activities.

"So, that's really why I had the operations, because, even at my age, I want to get back to the point where I can carry on doing all the adventurous stuff that I've done before."

Following his exit from the show, Nick underwent two surgeries, one to reattach his bicep, and another to build a new ACL and mend two tears. As a result, he was unable to appear on the final episode of Strictly Come Dancing with all of the other eliminated contestants.

Nick took to Instagram before Christmas to give his fans an update into his recovery. He said: "Three types of knee brace and one type of elbow brace - crutches - game ready ice and pressure machine - pressure leggings - physio stretching out for months ahead but I want to be walking normally by start of February for the next DIY SOS.

"Katie my fiancée has been patient and supportive and amazingly patient with me - the worst patient in the worldIt’s been frustrating and very expensive but I’m determined to get back to 100% fitness which I hope will be around August 2025Thanks for all the well wishes and encouragement - happy new year all."

Strictly Come Dancing finalist and Love Island star, Tasha Ghouri, took to the comments to share a message of support. She said: "Sending love to you Nick."
