Strictly Come Dancing reveals 2019 series launch date

The new series of Strictly Come Dancing will begin on BBC One on September 7, it has been announced.

In just two weeks, the hit show will be returning to UK screens, with a new cohort of celebrities ready to pair up with professional dancers in a bid for the famous glitterball trophy.

The launch date was announced on Twitter with a GIF of contestant Michelle Visage.

The BBC series is going to town for the launch show, with pop icon Kylie Minogue set to perform a medley of her hits accompanied by the programme’s pro dancers.

As usual, fans will find out who this year's celebrities will be paired with in the launch show .

The line-up for this year will look a little different with one of the show's most popular dancers Gorka Marquez announcing that he will not be paired with a celebrity this year.

Marquez, 28, has danced with actress Tameka Empson, 42, singer Alexandra Burke, 30, and campaigner Katie Piper, 35.

The Spanish native came in second place with Burke two years ago.

Announcing the change on Instagram this week, Marquez said: “For everybody that’s been asking, I can let you know that this series, I sadly won’t be partnered with a celebrity for the main series of Strictly. However, I will still be heavily involved in all of the group numbers and all things Strictly!

"I’m excited to see this year’s celebs and my fellow professionals dance for the Glitter Ball and I hope to be back fighting for it next year. As always, it’s gonna be a GREAT series.”

Pro dancer Graziano Di Prima also made a similar announcement this as he confirmed on social media that he won’t be paired with a celebrity.

The line-up for this year's series also includes RuPaul's Drag Race star Michelle Visage, Olympic rower James Cracknell, YouTuber Saffron Barker, Paralympian Will Bayley, comedian Chris Ramsey, BBC Breakfast sports presenter Mike Bushell, CBBC star Karim Zeroual and ex-footballer David James.

EastEnders star Emma Barton, ex-Coronation Street actress Catherine Tyldesley, Radio 1 DJ Dev Griffin and chef and socialite Emma, Viscountess Weymouth will also be taking part.
