Strictly Come Dancing is about to return in all its sparkling glory for 2021 – but a beloved tradition has been shelved for the upcoming series.

After the last season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the popular BBC celebrity dancing contest is getting ready for a major comeback.

However, Blackpool week doesn't seem to be on the cards.

"We're so thrilled that Strictly will be returning for a full-length series this year, and know how much viewers are looking forward to getting their full Strictly fix and seeing the return of much-loved specials," the show's executive producer Sarah James told The Mirror.

James also addressed the decision to temporarily cut Blackpool Week, where dancers perform at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom, instead of their usual studio.

"We are all so sad that we won’t be able to get to Blackpool this year but can't wait to be back dancing at the one and only Blackpool Tower Ballroom in the future," she added.

Fans still have a lot to look forward to as themed episodes will be reinstated. The upcoming season will see the contestants and their professional dance partners involved in the likes of Movies Week, Musicals Week and, of course, Halloween Week.

As usual, the line-up is under wraps, with some rumoured names including Gordon Ramsay's daughter (and TikTok sensation) Matilda, as well as former footballer Peter Crouch. But make sure to check back on Digital Spy to know when the official contestants will be revealed.

Viewers are also hoping to see more queer representation after boxer Nicola Adams and her partner Katya Jones' stint last season came to an early end when Jones tested positive for COVID-19. Adams has since said she'd "love" to return on the show.

We for one would love to have her back.

Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One in September.
