Dr Punam Krishan, the Glasgow GP and TV personality, who is starring in this year's Strictly has revealed she took dance partner Gorka Marquez kilt shopping.

The 41-year-old doctor, who is dancing with the Spanish pro, earned 18 points for their foxtrot routine to Shania Twain's Let's Go Girls! Dressed in black, the pair put on a 'sassy' performance, something that Dr Punam admitted she had to practice at home - joking she made her husband think she 'had lost the plot'.

Dr Punam impressed Strictly Come Dancing lead judge Shirley Ballas, despite not having any dancing experience. She said: "From the waist up, you are one of the strongest, most dynamic personalities in the competition".

Before admitting "I can't quite take it seriously with [Gorka] in his PVC trousers..."

Motsi Mabuse was split over the performance, telling the pair: "I do feel like you did not do so badly. You need to get that tone in the body to control your feet and shine on throughout the whole routine."

Unfortunately, the other judges were less impressed with Anton called it a bit "floppy" and Craig agreed: "It was verging on invertebrate, darling."

This week's score will now be added to their performance from last week's, where they received a 19 for their cha-cha routine to Kylie Minogue's Love At First Sight.

With some strong performances from other couples, the pair will be hoping they did enough to foxtrot their way through the first dance-off and elimination in the 22nd series will take place during the results show on Sunday night (September 29).

Pre-show Dr Punam also revealed that she had taken Gorka Marquez to MacGregor and MacDuff in the city to experience some Scottish culture. She commented on the Spaniard's love for Scotland before telling him that he couldn't come and not try on Scotland's national dress.

The pair picked out a grey and blue kilt and Marquez said he was 'officially Scottish' before Dr Punam bestowed him with the new Scots name: Gorka McMarquez.

The Glasgow doctor added: "It's really special to see Gorka embracing the tartan and I know everybody watching in Scotland will be very proud when they see him."
