Strictly Come Dancing's Annabel Croft has spoken out about a terrifying mugging incident that occurred in broad daylight, urging others to stay vigilant.

The dancer, who was paired with Johannes Radebe in the 2023 series, recounted the harrowing experience of having her phone snatched while waiting for a taxi outside King's Cross St Pancras. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she expressed her gratitude towards the good Samaritans who assisted her: "I just wanted to warn people who are on their own in London. I just got mugged waiting for a taxi outside King's Cross St Pancras."

Detailing the ordeal, she said: "The man was riding a bike and wearing a black balaclava. He rode straight at me and took my phone clean out of my hands." Despite the shock, Croft managed to recover her phone after the thief dropped it: "He rode away with it but luckily dropped my phone so I got it back. Terrifying! ".

She also highlighted the kindness of strangers following the incident: "On a positive note, there are some lovely people out there. Luckily a lovely gentleman witnessed it and came over to help me. Thank you to whoever you are.", reports Nottinghamshire Live.

Croft's experience adds to a growing list of similar incidents involving public figures, including Love Island's Anna-May Robey, who faced a comparable situation in February.

A report by The Times, based on a freedom of information request, revealed that phone thefts have surged by 20% last year across England and Wales. Police recorded 316,683 cases from January 1, 2019, to December 31, excluding data from six non-responsive forces and three that declined the request.
