Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has addressed the possibility of returning to the show following her exit.

Appearing on It Takes Two tonight (November 6), the pro dancer told host Janette Manrara about her injury and whether she could return to the dance floor this season.

"I'm absolutely gutted," Amy said. "Unfortunately, I have an insufficiency stress fracture on my shin."

She stressed the fracture has "nothing to do with [her] injury last year" and "could've happened to anybody".

"I need to rest for a couple of weeks," she explained.

Her celebrity partner JB Gill is continuing his Strictly journey with Lauren Oakley, who Amy described as "amazing".

"Hopefully, I will be back dancing in some capacity, maybe in a group number, by the end of the series," she said.

Speaking about her comeback following her breast cancer diagnosis, Amy broke down in tears, saying being back with her Strictly family was "the best rehab".

"It was everything," she said.

"I was just having the best, best time. It's such an incredible experience, and to have had it unfortunately cut short like this is just heartbreaking," she added. "But I only know too well that this too shall pass and I'll be there cheering everybody on."

Later on, JB gave Amy a sweet shout out in a video message.

"You're a wonderful teacher, a beautiful soul and you're gonna be back dancing better and stronger very, very soon," he said. "Thanks for absolutely everything over the last few months."

Earlier this week, Amy's withdrawal from the competition was announced in a BBC statement read on It Takes Two.

"Sadly, Amy Dowden MBE will not be partaking in the rest of the competition this year," a Strictly spokesperson said. "Whilst Amy focuses on her recovery following a foot injury, fellow Professional Dancer, Lauren Oakley, will step in as JB's dance partner."

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
