However, she previously admitted Strictly is outside her comfort zone, but expressed her determination to fully embrace the challenge. She told Manchester Evening News : "This still doesn't feel real, I am overjoyed to be a contestant on this year's show.
"I have watched Strictly every year with my family and it feels extra special that it's the 20th year, I can't believe I will be the one getting Strictly-fied now. This is so out of my comfort zone, but I'm up for the journey and will give it my absolute all."
The Glasgow doc has been posting regular updates to her Instagram on the show giving fans a sneak peak behind the scenes. Yesterday she revealed what happens on Fridays, saying: "After a very long but incredible day I'm back in my room.
"On Friday at Strictly everyone comes together and basically you get the chance to see what your dance will look like on the main dance floor. It's a bit of a shock to the system because you've been in your little bubble in your training room for the week, and then you've got lights camera and action.
Before adding: "The nerves are real for tomorrow. But I'm just staying present. This is all just such an incredible experience."
Then just hours before she is due to take to the stage, she issued another update on the way to the studio, saying: "I'm on my way to get my hair and makeup done. It's all go go go."
Adding that deep breaths and strong black coffee is getting her through the pre-show nerves, before posting a story of her in the makeup chair.
Dr Punam Krishan, an NHS GP with a special interest in public health, family and lifestyle medicine, has also taught at the University of Glasgow, where she studied medicine.
You can watch Punam and her partner Gorka on Strictly Come Dancing on Saturdays on BBC One at 6.15pm.
