Strictly Come Dancing’s Peter Andre: ‘I’ve Seen No Nastiness Between Celebrities’ - EXCLUSIVE

Peter Andre’s had quite the year - from marrying Emily MacDonagh to releasing new album ‘Come Fly With Me’ to competing in Strictly Come Dancing, topping the leaderboard at the weekend with his amazing charleston.

It wasn’t all good news for Peter at the weekend though, with reports claiming Jay McGuiness had ‘snapped’ at him when he suggested ‘toning down his relationship with Alioni Vilani’.

However, when Yahoo Celebrity UK spoke to the singer, he exclusively told us that all the celebs are good friends on and off the dancefloor, revealing: “I’ve seen no nastiness, I’ve seen nothing. They’re all good, we’re all good friends, we’ve all bonded really well. It’s great.”

PHEW.

Peter also revealed that he’s more nervous ‘by a mile’ dancing for the four judges than he is for strutting his stuff on his sold-out concerts, telling us: “I can’t even tell you that fear on a Saturday night, it’s just unbelievable.

“Once I’ve done my performance, that’s it. It’s not in my hands anymore. I just go, I relax the second I finish the routine. It’s just my nerves are on making sure that I do the routine as good as I can and once I’ve done that, I think whatever someone votes, it’s okay.

“I don’t get scared about it because one of these days I’m going to go. You can’t expect to be there week in, week out, so I’ve been really lucky that I’ve lasted past Halloween and anything can happen now.”

Something tells us Peter isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

With rehearsals being so full-on to fit in as much practise as possible around his hectic schedule, we wondered whether Peter had been teaching Emily MacDonagh some dance moves at home to increase his rehearsal time.

As he explained though, he ‘switches off’ the second he gets home to make sure Strictly doesn’t totally take over his life.

He told us: “We don’t talk Strictly because I think it’s important to have the balance of the two. I’ve got a family, I’ve got other jobs so I have to be able to switch off otherwise I’ll just go mad.”

He’s been trying to see his professional partner Janette Manrara outside of rehearsals too, but she keeps standing him up. HOW RUDE.

He revealed: “We have planned dinner at ours and [Janette and Aljaz Skorjanec] stood me up twice - no, they’ve stood me up once but we planned it basically a few times and what we decided is, because rehearsals are full-on and I’ve got a lot of other work on, we’ve just got to really wait until the other work slows down a bit.

“The minute the album promo slows down I can have them round, but we’re really good friends, all of us.”

Of course, it’s no secret that Strictly has been beating The X Factor hands-down in the ratings war this year - by around four million during one weekend - and Peter thinks he knows why the dancing show is still so popular.

He said: “I think Strictly is an all-round family entertainment show. It’s not just about the judges, it’s not just about the contestants, it’s about the pro dancers as well. Everyone has their favourite pro dancer and they look forward to seeing them each week.

“And then you’ve got the judges, who are also dancers so you know that they’re going to tell the truth. Then you’ve got Tess and Claudia who are just brilliant, and then you’ve got the contestants so even if you don’t know the contestants the show is still a huge show.”

Alongside discovering new dance skills, Peter’s busy with his top five album ‘Come Fly With Me’ and the upcoming tour, exclusively telling us: “The tour’s going to be a combination of loads of things. When people come to our tour, it’s a full night of entertainment but not just singing - we get the crowd involved. If you could think a little bit, just a little bit, if you could think of like Saturday Night Takeaway on tour.

“It’s fun stuff, the audience get involved in things - that’s only one element to it. The other element of course is that we’ve got a massive four-piece horn section, we’ve got percussion, we do all the swing stuff but then we incorporate it with a modern twist, we do stuff like funk and pop and soul and r ’n’ b [Peter also revealed his next album with be more r ‘n’ b, FYI]. It’s a great night. It’s not just one style.”

Peter’s album ‘Come Fly With Me’ is out NOW.
