Sam Quek will take to the dancefloor this week as Strictly Come Dancing's 2024 series gets underway. The former hockey player was the fifteenth and final celebrity to be announced for this year's Strictly back in August.

At the time Sam, 35, said: "I’m used to playing as part of a team, but the thought of dancing on the ballroom floor in front of a live audience is quite daunting! I’m chuffed to be a part of this legendary show and quickstep into the shoes of a performer, it feels absolutely surreal but I’m ready for every bit of the adventure."

Sam was born and raised in West Derby until she moved to Wirral at the age of five, and is an Olympic and European Gold medallist, former England and Team GB hockey player and now a TV and radio host. She was awarded an MBE in 2016 for services to entertainment and charity, after winning gold at the Rio Olympics as part of Team GB.

Sam also appeared in I'm a Celebrity... Get Me out of Here! that year, coming in fourth place after winner Scarlett Moffatt, and runners up Joel Dommett and Adam Thomas, who came second and third respectively. In 2018, Sam married her TV star husband Tom Mairs at a location that reflects her love of sport - Chester Racecourse.

Property mogul Tom starred in Channel 4's The Secret Millionaire back in 2013. The episode of the show explored how Tom, the son of a multi-millionaire entrepreneur, became a financial success in his own right thanks to his businesses renting out student houses in Liverpool.

Tom also appeared on BBC One game show For What It's Worth, alongside Sam, in May 2016. The pair won the £2,500 jackpot. Away from the cameras, Sam and Tom share two children, daughter Molly Doris Mairs, and son Isaac Gregory Mairs.
