Strictly Come Dancing star Shayne Ward has issued an emotional 'apology' to fans, as the row over him being eliminated from the show at the weekend rumbles on, with judge Shirley Ballas confronting her critics online.

Having had TV competition history, with his win on The X Factor in 2005, before also doing ITV's Dancing on Ice, Shayne was regarded by bookies as 'one to watch' from the new series line-up but, sadly for him, his Strictly journey wasn't the smoothest, with him and pro partner landing in the bottom three times, before finally being sent home at the end of week 8.

It was head judge Shirley who had the final say on Shayne and Nancy's exit, with her using her deciding vote to agree with Anton Du Beke and save Wynne and Katya, after both Craig Revel-Horwood and Motsi Mabuse gave their support to Shayne. The 40-year-old's exit was a particularly upsetting one, given he was desperate to make it through to Blackpool so his mum could see him dance for the first time.

And, as irate Strictly viewers continue to hit out at Shirley for her decision and demand the BBC 'change the rules' on how results are decided, Shayne has taken to Instagram for a heartfelt post in the aftermath of his elimination. After thanking Nancy for her 'belief and determination' and being 'beautiful inside and out,' Shayne moved onto thank his fans, as he added: "Thank you for standing by me and Nancy. I’m Sorry we couldn’t go any further. Hope we did you proud."

As plenty of fans fight her corner, Shirley has responded to her critics on X, joking that she would sign a petition to get her sacked, before accusing another viewers of 'ignoring' the fact that Anton also had a hand in Shayne's exit, as they failed to mention him in their social media rant.
