Strictly’s Kai Widdrington breaks silence on not getting a celebrity partner
Strictly Come Dancing star Kai Widdrington has broken his silence on not being given a celebrity partner for the new season.
The BBC series returns tonight (September 14) with its 22nd season, with the launch show unveiling who the 15 celebrities will be partnered with.
With the line-up consisting of nine male and six female celebrities, there is less room for male professionals in the main roster, with Kai – who joined the show in 2021 – being one of the stars to miss out.

“Everyone wants to get a celebrity. Unfortunately, it wasn’t my time this series,” he told the Daily Star. “Two boys couldn’t have one this series, and sadly I am one of them. Some of us don’t get partners, and that’s the way it is. Let’s see what happens next year. Hopefully, I’ll get one then.
“The line-up of celebs this year is amazing. It is going to be a fantastic series, as it always is. We have been filming a lot of the group routines. There are some amazing ones. We have worked really hard through the summer to get them ready for the series. One of the ones I feature in is very funny.”
The cast for the 22nd season includes Nick Knowles, Pete Wicks, Paul Merson, JB Gill, Tasha Ghouri, Jamie Borthwick, Montell Douglas, Sam Quek, Tom Dean, Wynne Evans, Sarah Hadland, Shayne Ward, Chris McCausland, Dr Punam Krishan and Toyah Willcox.

Willcox, a singer and actor, recently shared some thoughts on the season, explaining that comedian McCausland was the one to watch out for in terms of being a contender for the title.
“He's staggeringly good,” said Willcox of her co-star. “He's so brave, so incommunicado with everything. He's an experience just to be in the room with. I think he's going to go all the way.”
Strictly Come Dancing will return on Saturday, September 14 on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
