Strictly's Nick Knowles vows to return after injury even if he has to 'glitter up' crutches
The presenter said his knee is 'painful' and that he needs an MRI
What did you miss?
Nick Knowles has said he's determined to get back to the Strictly dancefloor next week after suffering a knee injury - even if he has to "glitter up" his crutches.
The DIY SOS presenter has had to pull out of Movie Week after hurting his leg during rehearsals, in what is his second injury since he made his debut on the BBC ballroom competition. Strictly confirmed the news on Friday (4 October), and Knowles later appeared on spin-off show It Takes Two in a video message to share an update.
He told fans his knee was "painful" and that he was set to have an MRI, but that he hoped to be back the following week.
What, how and why?
It Takes Two host Janette Manrara opened the show by explaining that Knowles had injured his leg and that he and his pro partner Luba Mushtuk would "receive a bye through to next week when he is hopefully able to dance again".
Knowles then appeared in a video in which he told viewers: "During our first sort of dress rehearsal today, or run through of the dance number on the stage, unfortunately I damaged my knee and it's quite painful so the physios have decided I need to go for an MRI."
"We unfortunately will not be dancing tomorrow," Mushtuk said. "But we really really hope that the knee will be better for the next week and yeah, we will be back on the dancefloor.
"Fingers crossed. We really hope that we will be back and see you all very soon."
Knowles then held up his crutch as he vowed: "Even if we have to glitter up the crutches, I am determined to get back and try and dance for you next week."
Nick Knowles previously injured his arm
The TV star damaged his arm earlier in the series. He hurt himself changing a tyre after his car broke down on the way to his 62nd birthday party. Knowles ended up with his arm in a sling, leaving his Strictly performance hanging in the balance.
"It was raining and there were big lorries going past," he said on It Takes Two. "So I tried to do it quickly and change the tyre quickly, and as I took the tyre off I basically damaged my bicep and damaged my arm... And then I went on and I was like, 'It's fine, I've hurt it but I'm OK' and then it got worse and worse and worse."
Luckily, Knowles' arm did improve enough for him to perform as planned.
When he and Mushtuk danced it was made clear that the TV star only had about 16 hours to rehearse. However, they managed to score 21 out of a possible 40 for their American Smooth, keeping their place in the competition.
For Movie Week, they had been planning to dance a Charleston to Rain On The Roof from Paddington 2.
