'Strictly Come Dancing' star Nicola Adams expecting first baby with partner
Strictly star Nicola Adams has revealed she is having a baby with her girlfriend Ella Baig.
The couple posted a message on Instagram confirming the pregnancy, which comes after two failed rounds of IVF.
They shared a black and white snap of them kissing on the beach and another of the ultrasound scan.
“We’re so excited to announce that our family is expanding,” the post said.
“After what feels like a lifetime, we can finally say we’re going to be parents! We’re so excited to share this magical journey with you all, the ups, the downs everything in between.
“Welcome to the world little one.”
Adams – who made history when she was part of the first same-sex partnership on Strictly with pro dancer Katya Jones – wrote in Vogue that she and Baig started their fertility journey in 2019.
They decided to use Adams’ egg and a sperm donor, and that Baig would carry the baby.
The boxer said she was “really upset” after the procedure failed twice, with their first attempt ending in a miscarriage, and that it was “emotional” when they found out that Baig was expecting again.
“We were worried about getting too excited because we’d miscarried before, but I think it’s really important that we try to enjoy it rather than dwelling on what could go wrong,” she wrote.
“We want to be the best parents we can be,” added the star.
Adams said she and Baig – who have been dating since 2018 - have already decided that they would like more children in the future.
She wrote: “And, as for the baby that’s on the way, we’ll have so much to tell them when they grow up. We’ll say, ‘You have no idea how much we wanted you!’”
Adams, 39, competed on Strictly with pro Jones in 2020.
They were popular with viewers but were forced to leave early when Jones tested positive for COVID.
