Strictly’s Sarah Hadland shares Miranda inspiration for next routine
Strictly Come Dancing star Sarah Hadland has shared that her upcoming routine brings back fond memories of her time on Miranda.
The actor, who is partnered with Vito Coppola on this year’s series of the BBC show, remains best known for her role as Stevie Sutton in the sitcom, which saw her appear alongside comedian Miranda Hart.
With Sarah and Vito safely progressing to the eighth week of the competition, the pair appeared opposite Fleur East on It Takes Two to discuss their next dance, an American Smooth performed to Heather Small’s ‘Proud’.

The song was prominently featured in the BBC sitcom, with Hadland explaining that the decision came from her love for the song: “When I first met Miranda and auditioned to be on the show, they sent us away for a couple of days with a camcorder to build a bit of a rapport.
“I was just wandering around and, as I do, suddenly sang [the chorus]. She wrote it down and said ‘we should make it a thing’. That’s how it began,” she continued, adding that she had “always loved” the song.
It wasn’t the only Miranda-themed story of the week, with Hadland revealing that Hart had visited her the previous week to offer some advice on the world of dance, adding that she had gained some valuable insight.

“It was quite intense,” Sarah recalled of the meeting. “When she mentioned free-leg, I thought she was joking, but it is a thing. She was talking about a button pressing on my knee – she said ‘imagine there was a button on my knee and you’ve got to press it.’
“Straight away I understood it. I said that ‘he’s [Vito] been going on about this, that and other – diamonds and triangles and this shape and that shape’. She says ‘button on my knee’, and I was sorted.”
Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
