Former Strictly Come Dancing pro James Jordan has clashed with Danny John-Jules and his wife after making comments about Danny's mother.

After facing Graeme Swann and Oti Mabuse in the dreaded Strictly dance-off this weekend, Danny and Amy Dowden have bowed out of this year's competition.

However, Danny's mum was in the audience to watch him perform a salsa with Amy on Saturday night (November 10), and in a now-deleted tweet, James said she looked as "miserable as him".

In response, Danny's wife Petula Langlais wrote: "Out of order! Attacking an elderly woman who has done nothing to you! 'You know nothing about our personal lives! That is below the belt!!! Love and light to you."

James replied: "I just stated facts… said what everyone was thinking. Not attacking anyone. She did look miserable when the camera was on her, but I'm sure she is a lovely lady. No malice intended. But everyone gets offended over everything nowadays."

"So you take the piss out of an 82 YO woman with Alzheimers #BigMan," Danny then tweeted.

But it didn't end there, as James later shared a screen grab of a direct message from Petula, writing alongside it: "Your lovely wife also wrote this to me after she asked me to follow her. I did so because there was no malice.

"Remember Danny I have a lot of friends on Strictly so please stop using this to overshadow the person you are."

However, Petula replied to James: "1. I asked you to DM me 2. I simply asked you to be more mindful and did it civilly 3. This message was meant to be private."

This comes after Danny's dance partner Amy had to deny claims she'd been bullied by Danny.

"Things did get a little bit intense the other day in rehearsals," Amy said on Friday's (November 9) episode of It Takes Two. "Do you know what? We took a half-hour break and then got straight to it. I never felt threatened or bullied by Danny."

And Danny added: "The only reason I'm here this far is because of Amy. I would never bite the hand that feeds me. I am more than happy."

Strictly Come Dancing returns next Saturday (November 17) on BBC One.
