Strictly Come Dancing star Chris McCausland has opened up about his “friendly battle” with judge Craig Revel Horwood.

The comedian has jokingly clapped back at the famously critical panellist’s comments on the series, which has won viewer praise in the last few weeks.

Appearing on last night’s (October 1) Strictly – It Takes Two alongside professional partner Dianne Buswell, host Fleur East suggested it “takes guts to challenge Craig in that way”, as she asked how much he is “loving this friendly battle”.

“It’s fun, innit. Who said ‘friendly’?” he quipped in response. “Do you know what, he’s a character isn’t he? I’ll poke him with a stick and see what I get out of him.”

Referring to comments Craig gave during last weekend’s episode, Chris recalled: “When he gave us that comment – fair play, I said, ‘Think of something original.’ And he came with this line about my fingers like bananas.

“I walked off and said to [Dianne], ‘Honestly, that was rubbish, my hands were like this on your back. He’s made that up just to get out of that!’ And she looked at the video and she went, ‘Yeah, your fingers are all over the place.’ I’m like, ‘Alright, maybe he had a point.’”

Meanwhile, last week Dianne opened up adapting her training approach for Chris, who is Strictly’s first-ever blind contestant.

"It's obviously very different. We use a lot of feel, don't we?" she explained on It Takes Two. "I'll be like, 'Get down on your knees, and feel my legs'. It is a different way of teaching.”

She went on to explain that the comedian frequently asks her to show movements with her feet to hear what she’s explaining.

"He uses the sounds very, very well," she added.

In other news, Strictly has confirmed its songs and dances for Movies Week this weekend, with Chris and Dianne set to Jive to the Wayne’s World theme.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
