Yahoo News Strictly's Judge Rinder offered return to show in same-sex couple
Judge Rinder has revealed that Strictly Come Dancing bosses have offered him the chance to dance as part of a same-sex couple in the 2020 Christmas special.
Having previously competed in the 2016 series, finishing in fifth place, Robert Rinder's return would be a welcome addition to the festive fun.
But more importantly, it would be a positive step forward for the BBC series, following much conversation in recent years about same-sex couples competing on the show.
"I was offered next year's Christmas special with a same-sex dancer," he recently told OK! magazine. "I'd do anything. I've danced on stage with [Strictly pro] Anton Du Beke for a Grenfell Tower benefit."
While it's not still not the main competition, Judge Rinder went on to suggest that a same-sex couple on Strictly is "inevitable".
Shortly before the 2019 series began, the broadcaster confirmed that it's "completely open" to the idea in future line-ups.
A BBC spokesperson previously said: "Strictly Come Dancing is an inclusive show and we are proud to have featured same-sex dancing amongst the professional dancers in group numbers in previous series.
"We are completely open to the prospect of including same-sex pairings between our celebrities and professional dancers in the future, should the opportunity arise."
Strictly Come Dancing will return for an all-new series later this year on BBC One.
