Strictly Come Dancing pro Kevin Clifton has revealed how he trains his celebrity dance partners.

Kevin has been on Strictly since 2013 and since then he has often been in the final but never won – until he won the prestigious Glitterball Trophy with celebrity dance partner Stacey Dooley in last year's competition.

Speaking about how he teaches his celebrity dance partners how to become pros on the dance floor, Kevin revealed that he does his best to create a comfortable training environment.

"I don’t crack the whip, be really strict or a disciplinarian. The only way you can do your best is when you feel really comfortable and safe," he told The Sun.

"And I also tell them I won’t laugh at them at any point - they can make as many mistakes as they want, providing they give their all on the night."

Kevin also says that his relationships with his dance partners are strictly professional, adding: "You're there to do a job and get on with the dancing. That's what it's about."

The pro also recently shared that if celebrities are on the fence about signing up to the show, they can be given a "taster session" – something which Joe Sugg definitely took up last year, as he explained in his vlog at the time.

"There are a couple of sessions like if a celebrity… they don’t know whether they want to sign, they want like a taster session," Kevin explained on Graham Norton's BBC Radio 2 show.

"We do that, and then when the celebrities are confirmed, there’s a couple of days where we meet them, and we have a go at dancing with all of them. You definitely know who’s going to be good or not after that session."

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One.
