Strictly Come Dancing professional Kevin Clifton has hinted that the show's celebrity contestants get a say in which pro they dance with.

The 2018 champion opened up about the process of pairing, claiming that although the pros get no say, the celebs do get a bit of sway.

"We do have a WhatsApp group, the pros do have a WhatsApp group, so when the celebs start getting announced, usually throughout August, we are all on the group with each other saying 'she'd be good for you' or 'he'd be good for you'," he explained to BBC Radio Solent.

Kevin then added: "So then we try and pair everybody up by the time they are all announced, on our WhatsApp group. We're all sort of saying, 'I think it's going to be this'.

"I believe the celebs get to talk to the producers a little bit and say, 'I would like someone like this'. Some of them might like a more strict approach or more soft. I believe there's some sort of conversation between the celebs and the producers, but the pros – no."

Ahead of the new series later this year, Kevin's fellow pro Dianne Buswell revealed last weekend that the team will be getting back to work on the show very soon.

"In less than two weeks the pros go back," she said on Sunday Brunch. "We have a month where every single day we go in and learn a new dance. Then in a month we find out who our celebrities are."

Strictly Come Dancing is back later this year on BBC One.
