Shayne Ward has been dealt a 'devastating' blow to his chances of winning Strictly Come Dancing, as he's been made the 'dead cert' to be axed this week, just days after his despair turned to delight, when he and pro partner Nancy Xu defied odds to avoid the dance-off.

Most famous for winning The X Factor in 2005, before appearing in classic ITV soap Coronation Street, Shayne had been earmarked as a potential contender for victory on the latest series of the BBC show, with him very much in the mix in the early odds, alongside high scorer Tashi Ghouri and JLS' JB Gill. However, after a promising start to his journey on Strictly, things took a turn for Shayne and Nancy when they ended up in the bottom two, before then suffering the same fate just two weeks later, after again not getting enough support from the public.

The fact that Shayne and Nancy ended up in the dance-off despite scoring well, gave a big indication that they weren't proving very popular with the public and, with that ion mind, they were made the overwhelming favourites to get the boot from the ballroom last week.

Fortunately for them, they did get the support they needed in Icons Week to keep out of the danger zone, with them looking delighted as they were the first couple to be called safe in last weekend's results show. But, after that reprieve, bookies are convinced that their absence from the dance-off won't be a lengthy one as, on the eve of the next live show, they were again made the frontrunners to be eliminated.

At the time of writing on Friday lunchtime, BetMGM made Shayne the 10/11 favourite to go, ahead of Wynne Evans, with director Sam Behar commenting: “We are starting to see the business end of Strictly Come Dancing now, and are approaching the time in the show where there is very little margin for error.

“We’ve seen Shayne Ward be backed to leave the show this weekend, and have odds of 10/11 for him to be the next elimination. We’ve also seen money for Wynne Evans and he’s the second favourite at 7/4, so with the next celebrities at 4/1 and 8/1, it seems likely that one of Ward or Evans will dance for the final time this weekend.”

The latest odds from Grosvenor Sport are also bad news for Shayne, with them too having him as 10/11 favourite to go this weekend.
