Strictly Come Dancing star Wynne Evans has reflected upon his exit from the show, describing his journey as “fantastic.”

The opera singer and professional partner Katya Jones became the ninth pair to exit the series as they lost out to Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe in Sunday’s (November 17) dance-off, with their final routine coming at the iconic Tower Ballroom in Blackpool.

Following their elimination, the duo appeared opposite Fleur East on Monday’s (November 18) episode of It Takes Two to discuss their final dance, with Wynne explaining that he had few regrets from his stint.

“I still feel fantastic about the whole experience and journey – it’s been incredible from beginning to end,” he began. “To end in Blackpool was like the icing on the cake. Apart from winning, actually, that would have been better.

“The venue was beautiful. There’s so many opera houses designed by the same person, and it just felt really homely. It felt like one of the old theatres I’m used to singing in. It was a beautiful setting to bow out on.

“Wynne said he couldn’t believe he got through the first week, so the realisation that we were dancing there, in week nine, was already enough,” added Katya. “I loved every single moment and I’m so glad he got to experience it.”

While the pair were busy professing their gratitude for the Strictly journey, Wynne received a surprise from co-star and close friend Jamie Borthwick, with the EastEnders star paying tribute to the opera singer.

“I just want to say that it’s been the best nine weeks,” said Jamie. “Who’d have thought that we would’ve become best mates – it’s the duo nobody knew they needed. It’s been brilliant and it’s not going to be the same without you. But I’ve got a friend for life.”

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
