Strike Devastates Palace of Culture in Ukrainian City of Lozova

A Russian missile devastated the recently renovated Palace of Culture in the city of Lozova, Kharkiv Oblast, on May 20, according to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

“The occupiers identified culture, education and humanity as their enemies,” Zelensky wrote on Facebook, according to a Google translation. “What is in the minds of people who choose such targets? Absolute evil, absolute stupidity,” he said.

The Kharkiv branch of the State Emergency Service (SES) said seven people, including an 11-year-old child, were injured in the strike.

The building was partially destroyed and roof insulation was burned, the SES said. A fire caused by the strike was extinguished by 3.25 pm, they added.

Lozova’s Palace of Culture opened in 1977 and includes an auditorium, a lecture hall, three dance halls, a gym, and multiple rooms for classes and club meetings, according to the city’s website. Credit: Volodymyr Zelensky via Storyful
