A Dutch football expert has warned Santiago Gimenez against making a 'mistake' if he does not sign for Nottingham Forest.

Speaking to Vandaag Inside, relayed by FCUpdate , Johan Derksen - who played for several Dutch clubs including Cambuur and Haalem before forging a successful career in sports journalism - has warned the Mexico forward against making a 'mistake' by not moving to Forest. He said: “Giménez, he is making the mistake of his life.

“He thinks Nottingham Forest is an uninteresting club and wants to go to a bigger club, he is not good enough for that. It’s the chance of a lifetime to play football at the highest level in Europe with Nottingham Forest. He has to grab that with both hands.

“He will earn an insane salary there, five to ten times as much as at Feyenoord. But if he does well, Aston Villa could come for Giménez at some point. Aston Villa will never take him away from Feyenoord on their own, but I think it’s mainly a failing businessman [agent]. That agent should also say, ‘Those big clubs, they won’t come for you’.”

Forest are keen on the forward - who scored 23 goals in the Eredivisie last season - but had a recent bid rejected by the Rotterdam-based side.

Derksen’s comments come after contrary talk from Feyenoord legend Mario Been, who believed Forest are not the right fit for the 23-year-old, speaking to ESPN. He said: “I don’t think that’s the best club for him. If you look at his second half of the season, five million euros would have been enough! But, in the first half of the season, he played excellently.”
