Striking Teachers March Through Central London After Rejecting Government's Pay Raise Offer
A large crowd of teachers marched past England’s parliament in London on Tuesday, May 2, after rejecting the government’s latest pay offer.
The National Education Union (NEU) announced the strikes after calling the government’s latest pay offer “insulting." NEU members wanted a pay increase of 12 percent, but the government offered an increase of five percent, the Evening Standard reported.
The walkout was the fifth teachers’ strike action this year and was predicted to disrupt more than 22,000 schools, local news reported.
“The message to the government is clear: we are not going away, and neither is our campaign to win a fully funded pay rise for teachers,” the NEU tweeted. Credit: Olumide Awoyemi via Storyful
