Strong geomagnetic storm brings breathtaking northern lights
A solar flare erupted from the western edge of the Sun on Thursday, bringing stunning images of the aurora borealis, or northern lights, to Earth farther south than usual. The powerful X1.3-class solar flare fired a coronal mass ejection (CME), a blast of the Sun's plasma and magnetic field, causing a large geomagnetic storm that resulted in a dazzling light show.
