Strong winds and drenching rain hit South Florida as Tropical Storm Elsa approached the state on July 5.
A storm surge warning was issued for the state’s west coast and the Florida Keys. The storm’s outer rain bands were also affecting the state’s east coast and had the potential to bring powerful winds, heavy rainfall and flooding, according to the National Weather Service.
