Studio 54 trailer exclusive: Watch the first teaser for Matt Tyrnauer's documentary exploring the infamous nightclub

Sex, drugs and debauchery: Studio 54 was infamous for it all.

While the nightclub - whose regulars included Andy Warhol, Liza Minnelli, Mick Jagger, Grace Jones, and many more - has been the subject of various documentaries, Matt Tyrnauer (Valentino: The Last Emperor, Citizen Jane: Battle for the City) hopes to tell the real story behind the club in his upcoming film.

Simply titled Studio 54, the film features new and archived interviews with founders Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell, along with those who played the club, such as Nile Rogers.

The Independent can exclusively reveal the first trailer for the documentary, featuring some famous talking heads along with footage from the documentary. Watch above.

The official synopses reads: “Studio 54 was the epicentre of 70s hedonism—a place that not only redefined the nightclub, but also came to symbolize an entire era. Its co-owners, Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell, two friends from Brooklyn, seemed to come out of nowhere to suddenly preside over a new kind of New York society.

“Now, 39 years after the velvet rope was first slung across the club’s hallowed threshold, a feature documentary tells the real story behind the greatest club of all time.”

Studio 54 reaches cinemas 15 June. Find out more on the film's official website studio54doc.com.
