You'll struggle to find the pot of gold at the end of this rainbow - because it is a perfect full circle.

The unusual phenomena was captured by Birdseye View Aerial Photographer Colin Leonhardt, 46, during a trip over Cottesloe Beach in Western Australia.

Colin says the sight is extremely rare and was sighted from the air as the pilot flew around a rain shower.

Colin, from Perth, Western Australia, said: 'They are rare - and even harder to photograph.

'We were coming back from a routine aerial photoshoot when the pilot flew around a rain shower.

'As we went through the trailing edge of the rain, the sun was low and setting and the sunlight just created this amazing rainbow. It just evolved in front of us.'

Colin naturally grabbed his camera and began snapping for the five minutes it remained a complete full circle rainbow.

The 46-year-old, who took up photography in 2002, added: 'Since I put it online, I have received so many messages mostly from physics professors and astronomers.'

According to NASA, the full circle rainbow is 'an observer dependent phenomenon primarily caused by the internal reflection of sunlight by raindrops.'
