Stunning 'Levanter Cloud' Rolls Over Rock of Gibraltar

The iconic levanter cloud that drapes over Rock of Gibraltar provided a stunning backdrop on Wednesday, August 24, flights arrived and departed below the rock into Gibraltar International Airport

Timelapse video posted by local Met Office in Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory between southern Spain and Morocco, shows the cloud as an EasyJet plane took off.

The levantar cloud is produced by the ‘Levante’, an easterly wind which brings warm moist air from the Mediterranean which condenses over the Rock, creating “a persistent veil of cloud” that hangs over it, according to the Met Office. Credit: Met Office Gibraltar via Storyful
