The quintessentially British town of Harrogate, often hailed as "the poshest" in the UK, has been named the top staycation destination in the nation. Outshining other popular spots like Stratford-upon-Avon and Anglesey, Yorkshire's gem has taken the crown.

As staycations become increasingly popular among Brits keen to explore the beauty within easy reach for holidays or short breaks, AA experts have identified the best destinations for a car-friendly getaway.

Their extensive research took into account various factors such as availability of accommodation, local happiness levels, parking ease, fuel services, and electric vehicle charging points to determine the "ultimate top 10 locations for the perfect staycation". Topping the list with the highest 'happiness rating' of 7.8 out of 10 and an impressive 62 attractions for tourists, Harrogate stands out as the winner, according to the Express.

Renowned for its stunning architecture, the iconic Betty's Cafe and Tea Rooms, RHS Harlow Carr gardens, and more, Harrogate epitomises Victorian splendour combined with contemporary amenities. The nearby countryside offers idyllic landscapes for discovery, with natural wonders like Brimham Rocks awaiting those who appreciate the great outdoors.

Harrogate, a town known since the 19th century for its mineral-rich springs attracting wellness enthusiasts, offers a perfect blend of historical charm and modern comforts today. The town's Valley Gardens is a must-visit spot, featuring a stunning park with an array of flowers, walking trails, and traces of the town's famous spa waters, reports the Mirror.

The Royal Pump Room Museum is another key attraction, offering insights into Harrogate's spa history and its development as a health resort. Stratford-upon-Avon, renowned as Shakespeare's birthplace, secured second place with a happiness score of 7.6, over 6,000 parking spaces, and more than 60 attractions including the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Cornwall's Newquay came in third, boasting 326 AA-approved accommodations, over 3,500 parking spots, and a happiness rating of 7.5.
