Parkinson's Patient Reports 'Life-Changing' Effect of New Infusion Therapy

A patient who received a new infusion therapy treatment for Parkinson’s disease has shown remarkably progress after just two days, Sherwood Forest Hospitals said.

Footage released by the trust shows Damien Gath before and just two days after the treatment with Produodopa, a new infusion therapy treatment that is administered via a portable pump under the skin, for patients with advanced-stage Parkinson’s disease.

Gath was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 12 years ago, the trust said, and has been undergoing treatment at Sherwood Forest Hospitals since 2016.

The “after” video, taken just two days after Gath began his Produodopa treatment, shows a stunning improvement in his symptoms as he is able to make a cup of tea without problems.

“It’s been extraordinary and life-changing – just shortly after first having the treatment I was able make a cup of coffee more easily and go to the supermarket,” Gath said.

“I am also sleeping much better and the duvet doesn’t feel like a ton weight on my legs – I can turn over when I want to,” he added.

His wife Amanda added that it had been difficult to do regular couple outings before the treatment, but: “Now, we are just like any other couple enjoying themselves.”

Produodopa is recommended for patients with advanced Parkinson’s disease who experience severe changes in their movement abilities, and for whom standard Parkinson’s medications no longer offer sufficient relief, Sherwood Forest Hospitals said. Credit: Sherwood Forest Hospitals via Storyful
