Snow day outfits: winter street style done right

With a light dusting of snow currently covering the streets of London, we all could do with some snow day style inspiration.

Luckily, the recent Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris saw similar chilly conditions, but despite the cold weather, the fashion set's sartorial elegance didn't dwindle in the slightest.

Resisting the urge to throw on every layer in their suitcase, the likes of Chiara Ferragni, Veronika Heilbrunner and Camila Coelho weathered the storm in style - braving heels, mini dresses and limited layers of outerwear.

As snow flurries are forecast to continue in the UK over the next couple of days, here are four easy items to add to your wardrobe if you want to tackle snow style like a pro.

1. Sheer tights

Fleece-lined tights would certainly be the warmer hosiery of choice, but the couture crowd threw caution to the gale force wind and decided that a low denier option would earn more sartorial style points.

Chiara Ferragni and Courtney Trop are, in fact, not wrong, as several patterened, colourful and sheer styles recently became a massive hit on social media. It may not be the most chill-defying option, but you have to admit, it does look très chic.

2. Thigh High Boots

The rest of us will be wedded to our chunky Dr Marten's or new season hiking boots for the next few months, but Parisian trendsetters gave us a reason to set our sights a little (or, a lot) higher.

Thigh high boots were the not-so subtle shoe trend on the streets. Putting a new twist on the classic black boot, lace-up detail was a must, giving an edgy finish to whatever frock you choose to throw on.

3. A Beret

To elevate your winter wardrobe with one simple addition, simply swap your trusty beanie hat for a beret.

Leonie Hanne and Veronika Heilbrunner were firm backers of the headgear hack at Haute Couture Week. And, we have to say, it definitely exudes a cool French girl vibe.

4. Nude Knit

To make a smart investment this winter, forget slogans and rainbow hues, get yourself a timeless nude knit.

Brown is the new 'it' shade and so knits in chocolate and caramel hues are your best bet this season. Whether you opt for a tonal look à la Camila Coelho and Mayada Sleiman, or mix and match with contrasting lime or hot pink hues, you can't go wrong with adding a neutral oversized number to your wardrobe.
