"Sometimes certain characters are put on a back burner, like Connor has been, [or are] coming off the back burner, like Justine Lupe's character has been, too."

Suggesting that Marcia is a character who "has been a bit of a victim of that", the actor added: "She's had to take a backward seat, and also because she wasn't there, she didn't turn up to the boat.

"[Logan] was waiting for her to come and she didn't because of her own issues. So that hovered over the script."

As for where Hiam Abbass' matriarch may next turn up as the battle for Waystar Royco continues, Cox concluded: "I don't know what's happening… [at the start of] season three, that is still very unclear, what that position is."

In terms of Succession's future as a show, the Logan actor recently suggested that the black comedy-drama is already "morphing into other areas".

"It's becoming much more of a... I don't want to say 'humanist document' because Jesse [Armstrong, creator] would hate that," he offered. "But the show has taken on its own life, it's creating its own life. And that's a big advantage."
