Sue Perkins’ jibe at ‘boring’ Paul Hollywood hints at off-screen feud

If the simmering tensions between Sue Perkins and Paul Hollywood on display in tonight’s episode of Bake Off are anything to go by, it’s probably a good job they’re going their separate ways.

The Sun claims Sue’s comments during tonight’s technical challenge are further evidence of an off-screen feud. The frosty atmosphere comes to a head when the comedian makes a quip about the celebrity baker being boring. As if.

Introducing the challenge, Hollywood bellows: “"Remember, it’s the semi-finals. So it’s not only got to taste good, it’s got to look good, too.“

Sue’s response? “And Paul, I think you have an appointment at Banalities R Us, just over there. Mary, we’ll see you later.”

Wow… pretty harsh even by Sue’s typical acerbic standards.

But The Sun’s attempts to paint the jibe as the result of a Channel 4-related spat fall a bit flat when you consider the episode was filmed MONTHS ago. Oops.

Still, is there further proof? Well, 47-year-old Sue also appeared to snub the sourdough silverback’s advances on Twitter after he challenged her to take part in a charity video in which you have to, er, use a hammer to smash a loaf of bread.

“Here’s me smashing cancer, thanks @MrGeorgeClarke, I nominate @sueperkins, go on Sue X #standuptocancer #smashcancer,” he said on the social media site, leading one wag to quip: “Smashing plait won’t buy back Sue’s love. That bread looks a bit like a snake doesn’t it Paul?”

Sue’s response? Complete silence. Tsk. Never mind guys, you’re only on air for a few more weeks.
