The Sugababes have said they understand their fans are frustrated waiting for their new album but promise it is almost finished.

Original Sugababes Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy are embarking on their first arena tour, starting in April 2025, and told fans they are working on new music which will be ready in time for the live shows. The band also reflected on what it has been like enjoying a resurgence of popularity 24 years on from their debut single Overload, when they were just 16.

The Sugababes appeared on The One Show on Friday 25 October to talk to hosts Vick Hope and Roman Kemp about their upcoming tour. And they said they appreciated their fans' patience as they worked on their new album, but promised it would soon be finished.

Donaghy said: "We are working on it. We haven't got a release date just yet, but it's very close to being finished, and we're really excited about it."

Buchanan added: "I think our music has always just been very eclectic. We love to make, like, timeless classics. 7I know a lot of our fans get, , frustrated because they're like, when? When? When? But we think that, you know, quality over quantity." Donaghy went on: "And we are independent. We write our own music. It does take a little bit longer, but hopefully ready for the arena tour. Which is our first ever arena tour."

Buchanan said: "And it'll be like the Sugababes sound in terms of lots of harmonies and stuff."

Buchanan and Buena were childhood friends from the age of eight and the band were signed when they were just 13. The Sugababes had several changes in line-up before the three original band members reunited in 2011. When they performed at Glastonbury 2024 they caused chaos as their fans crowded to see them on one of the smaller stages. They reflected on what it was like to experience this resurgence of fame 24 years on.

Buchanan said: "We grew up together first of all. Like M here and I - we've known each other since we were eight-years-old, and obviously we started the group when we were like, 12-years-old. We weren't like, put together, we just always, naturally just had this vocal blend that was very genuine.

"And I think that's kind of what people are seeing when we're together, it's not really forced or contrived or anything like that. And so I guess, having a full circle come back, it's been incredible. We're enjoying it so much. And that's the most important thing for us is to actually enjoy ourselves. And it is a unique sound as well."

The One Show airs on BBC One at 7pm on weekdays.

The Sugababes arena tour started at the O2 in London on Thursday 10 April 2025.
