Yahoo News Suicide Squad 2 might star Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn after all
Last week, we all got the news that Jared Leto might not reprise his role as the Joker in the Suicide Squad's upcoming sequel.
Without the Joker, Harley Quinn's future, aka his beloved girlfriend, in the cinematic universe is in doubt too.
Well, hang on there, because it's been just reported that Margot Robbie's character is actually expected to return in the sequel.
According to a new report from Forbes, "sources close to production" have confirmed that Harley Quinn will appear in The Suicide Squad (the sequel's current working title), and that production is set to begin later this year.
This is definitely great news because, admit it, who wouldn't love to see the bright, bubbly and psychotic Harley back?
As for some of the other characters – Cara Delevingne will not be back as Enchantress and Jay Hernandez (El Diablo) might come back somehow even after his exit from the first film, and hopefully we will see Viola Davis back as the intelligence officer who successfully assembled the most dangerous team of supervillains we've ever seen.
Meanwhile, Robbie's character is set to appear in another Harley Quinn movie – Birds of Prey – which will also feature Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Huntress and Black Canary.
Robbie's previously described the film as an "R-rated girl-gang film including Harley", saying: "I was like, 'Harley needs friends'. Harley loves interacting with people, so don't ever make her do a standalone film."
The Suicide Squad is set to be released on August 6, 2021. Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will be released on February 7, 2020.
