Sunderland's chief business officer David Bruce has looked ahead to two centrepiece weeks in the club’s seasonal calendar, as they honour the club, city and people.

The Black Cats have revealed Founders’ Week which will take place next month and be followed by Heroes’ Week, presented by Direct Business Solutions, which will pay tribute to Sunderland's service people. Speaking to safc.com, Bruce revealed what supporters can expect from the weeks.

“We wanted to create a couple of event weeks where we celebrate what makes the city and the club special, and what connects them with our communities and our fans,” he said.

“We’ve launched two new big event weeks – one is called ‘Founders’ Week where we celebrate the founding of the football Club that means so much to so many people around the world.

“The second will be ‘Heroes’ Week’, which is about celebrating the unique connection that this part of the world has with the military and servicepeople, and how much those communities mean to the City of Sunderland.

“When you’re an institution like this football club, you have a lot to talk about – we have young fans who are new to the club, who might not have any idea about Sunderland’s history.

“This club has some brilliant stories that we want to tell to the new generation, but we also want to connect with our older generation. There’s going to be all kinds of things we do in these weeks where people remind themselves of amazing memories and celebrate them.”

He continued: “We did a lot of work over the summer to improve the team, improve our business and improve how we connect with supporters. There’s a long way to go, but it’s been a great start.”
