Sunseeker International may be known for its extravagant yachts popping up in James Bond films, but demand for more modestly priced boats has helped the manufacturer boost sales and return to profit.

Boss Phil Popham said its new Manhattan 52 yacht has become the firm’s fastest-selling model to date with over 80 retail orders.

The craft costs around £750,000 and features sunbathing space which can be converted into a mini beach club with built-in barbecue and overhead shower.

Popham added that demand for its pricier vessels, such as the £15 million Sunseeker 131, has held up. But he stressed that the Manhattan 52 was the best-selling model in 2016.

That contributed to revenue jumping 25% to £252.4 million last year. The firm, owned by China’s Dalian Wanda, reported underlying profits of £6 million, compared with a £7 million loss a year earlier.

The company was helped by the weaker pound enticing more buyers, building goods more quickly, and working with suppliers to get costs down.
