The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will collide in the latest edition of the Super Bowl next month.

The climax of the NFL season, the contest - one of the most popular events on the global sporting calendar - sees the respective conference champions go head to head in a one-off game to claim the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers are currently tied for the most Super Bowl wins with six, but the 49ers can draw level with another victory, having won five times previously.

While football obviously takes centre stage, the Super Bowl is also famous for its glamorous half-time show, typically performed by some of the biggest names in music.

Kick-off is scheduled for 6:30pm ET.

In the United Kingdom, that is 11:30pm GMT.

The Kansas City Chiefs will return to the big game for the first time in exactly half a century.

Patrick Mahomes inspired Andy Reid's men - who had already overcome a sizeable deficit against the Houston Texans one week earlier - to a 35-24 comeback victory over the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship game at Arrowhead Stadium.

They will meet the NFC champion 49ers, who followed up their divisional-round win over the Minnesota Vikings by beating the Green Bay Packers 37-20 in Santa Clara, California.
