Supergirl unveils first look at trans hero Dreamer's costume
Supergirl is going to make history next month when TV's first-ever trans superhero joins Kara in the fight against the xenophobic Children of Liberty.
The CW show has unveiled a sneak preview of actress Nicole Maines donning her super-suit as Dreamer/Nia Nal, Kara's protege both at CatCo and in the fight against the evil threatening National City.

Nia (Nicole Maines) will technically adopt her heroic identity in the episode 'Menagerie' (airing February 17 in the US), but fans will learn more about her backstory in January 27's 'Blood Memories'.
This earlier episode will introduce Nia's family and explore the origins of her powers, as well as the costs they've had on her life.
Actress Nicole Maines is also making history as the first trans actress to play a hero on US TV. Last year, she admitted that the gravity of that honour wouldn't feel real until she finally got her super-suit.
"I've been trying to conduct myself on set like this isn't the only thing I'm thinking about, but it's all I'm thinking about," she joked to Entertainment Weekly.
"That's when it'll really sink in that we have a trans superhero."
Maines is a hero on and off screen, having first rose to prominence internationally for fighting to overturn a Maine law that blocked transgender people from using the bathroom of their choice. She's definitely the kind of ally Kara needs!
Supergirl continues on Sundays on The CW in the US. Sky1 airs the show in the UK.
