Superman & Lois casts Saw star Angus Macfadyen as Jor-El

Superman & Lois has found its Jor-El.

Scottish Angus Macfadyen, who has appeared in titles such as Braveheart, Californication, Turn: Washington's Spies and the Saw franchise, has been cast as Clark Kent's Kryptonian father.

He will make his introduction as the character in the show's second episode, which is set to air in the US on March 2.

According to ComicBook.com, "His brilliant essence still exists within the arctic Fortress of Solitude," despite him having died decades ago along with his and his son Kal-El's home planet, and he offers guidance when the Man of Steel seeks help.

With Arrowverse stars Elizabeth Tulloch and Tyler Hoechlin reprising their roles as the titular characters, Superman & Lois will reportedly see Clark's superhero antics take a bit of a backseat.

Instead, it'll focus on the couple as they try to "deal with all of the stress, pressures, and complexities" that come with juggling their jobs at the Daily Planet and raising two teenage sons – post-Crisis retconned twins Jonathan and Jordan – in today's society.

Mistresses' Adam Rayner, Nip/Tuck actor Dylan Walsh, The Vampire Diaries' Wole Parks and Entourage's Emmanuelle Chriqui also star as Morgan Edge, General Samuel Lane, The Stranger and Clark's first love Lana Lang, respectively.

Superman & Lois is set to premiere on Tuesday, February 23 at 9pm on The CW in the US. It has yet to announce when it will be broadcast in the UK.
