Superman & Lois season three spoilers follow.

Superman & Lois star Wolé Parks has opened up about the shocking death in season three's latest episode.

In the episode, titled 'The Dress', Parks' character John Henry Irons killed Atom-Man (Paul Lazenby) with his hammer during a confrontation, breaking Superman's (Tyler Hoechlin) cardinal rule: do not kill.

While John Henry believes he had no other option, a horrified Clark tells his friend: "You always have a choice."

Discussing the shocking moment with Entertainment Weekly, Parks explained that not killing "is so ingrained in the ethos" of Clark and goes so against what he believes.

"The interesting thing that they set up is this juxtaposition between what's right and what's wrong," he continued.

"That's why that moment when Superman lands behind him, John Henry doesn't even look at him and says, 'I didn't have a choice.' For him, he truly believes that."

On how this might affect John Henry and Clark's relationship moving forward, Parks shared: "They have to find a common ground with this. My prayer is that Clark understands his perspective, even if he doesn't agree with it.

"This episode, we basically have seen Clark come at him, Natalie come at him, Lana, General Lane, everyone's coming at him being like, 'Dude, you are going off the deep end.' And he's like, 'Guys, what else do you want me to do? I'm trying to protect my family.'"

Parks went on to say that John Henry can't let himself "second guess" his actions now, adding: "Yeah, it's horrible that he did this, but if you look in the totality of it, how many people has Bruno killed? That's his rationale."

Superman & Lois airs on The CW in the US, and on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the UK.
